Former British Open champion did not compete on the PGA TOUR in 2004. Highlight of 2003 season was serving as Captain’s Assistant under Gary Player for the International squad at The Presidents Cup. Has worked as golf commentator for ABC Sports since 1998 and as an analyst for ESPN since 1999. In 2001, played in his first PGA TOUR event since 1997, missing the cut at the MasterCard Colonial (74-77). MasterCard event was first since he walked away from the game following an opening 92 at the 1997 British Open–his only round of the season. Captured 120th British Open at Royal Birkdale in 1991. Closed with rounds of 64-66 to defeat countryman Mike Harwood by two strokes. Birdied five of his first seven holes Sunday to set stage for victory. Lone PGA TOUR victory came in 1989 Southwestern Bell Colonial by four strokes over David Edwards. Amassed 15 top-10s during the 1990-91 seasons, earning more than $600,000. In 1996, chosen by Captain Peter Thomson to serve as Captain’s Assistant for International Team during The Presidents Cup. Qualified for PGA TOUR by finishing third at 1988 World Series of Golf, earning $75,840. Led 1984 British Open at St. Andrews through three rounds before final-round 79 left him T9. Comes from same "neighborhood" as Greg Norman and Wayne Grady in Queensland, Australia. Got started in golf when he was 10 caddying for his father and started to play regularly at age 12 when he got his first set of clubs. While playing, worked for all the Australian television networks. Also served as an analyst for the Australian PGA Tour Productions golf telecasts in Australia until his return to the United States in 2001. During his travels, enjoys playing all the world’s top golf courses.
